Air compressors can get their power from one of two sources.
Electric powered air compressors are the most popular. They can be used anywhere that electricity is readily available. This type of compressor is safer than a gas-powered unit because it doesn’t produce dangerous emissions.
Gasoline powered units are ideal for commercial and industrial applications. This type of air compressor is usually found in settings that have limited access to electricity. Gas powered compressors must be used outdoors or in a heavily ventilated area because of the fumes they emit.
You might be wondering if an air compressor can be run on a generator…The answer is no. Or at least, it isn’t recommended because of the possible fluctuations in power that can occur with a generator, which can damage your air compressor. In most cases, using an air compressor with a generator will void its warranty, and yes, it is easy for the manufacturer to identify this type of damage.
